Title I TEAM

Welcome to the Title I Program - School City of East Chicago!

Welcome to the Title I website! The goal of our website is to provide our parents, students, teachers and community with information that will help you to understand the Title I program. Title I provides many programs and services to the students, parents and teachers in the School City of East Chicago.

What is Title I?

Title I is part of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Legislation that provides supplemental federal funding for low achieving children in schools that provide free and reduced lunches for disadvantaged students. The Title I program provides extra academic support and learning opportunities for children that are the most in need in meeting Indiana's challenging state academic standards.

Which students receive Title I services?

Services to children are based on the academic needs of individual children, not on the socioeconomic level of a child or his/her family. The following children may be served.

·         Any child who is in academic need

·         Children who are homeless

·         Children with disabilities

·         Children with limited English proficiency

·         Migrant children

What services are provided?

Each district uses its Title I money for extra educational services for children most in need of improvement in the academic standards-based skills of reading and/or math. You can the the different programs and services available by clicking on the links for Programs and Services.
