The vast majority of East Chicago students take personal pride in their dress and grooming habits. Fully recognizing the maturing process that occurs during their years of school attendance, students should strive to develop dress and grooming habits that will help them enter both the adult and work world. The School City of East Chicago recognizes the importance of the growth period and continues to encourage guidelines that are appropriate during the school day and school-related activities. Clothing should be clean and neat. Fully realizing that dress, appearance, and grooming change continually, the administration reserves the right to determine what is appropriate. The determination will be based on whether a student's dress, appearance, and grooming may create health, sanitation, safety, or disruptive attention to the student population, thereby affecting the educational climate of the school. The School City administration has, therefore, established the following guidelines and will not permit the following:
