Attention all Juniors and Seniors. Valparaiso University will be holding Regional Spring College Fair on Wednesday March 10, from 6:30-8 p.m. The Fair will take place at Harre Union on the Valparaiso University Campus. Financial Aid presentations will be offered from at 6:00 pm. and 7:15 p.m.

  • UA Apprenticeship Applications for Plumbers Local 210

    · Applications can be picked up at Plumbers Local 210 Hal (side Entrance) 2901 E. 83rd Place (route 30 & Colorado turn south, 1 block take right on E. 83rd Place Merrillville, IN. 4641 219-942-7224

    · From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m

    o Need a valid ID stating you are 18 years of age.

    o You have 30 days to return the application.

    o Second Wednesday of the following months applications are given out

    March 10, April 14, May 12, June 9, July 14, Aug 11, Sept. 8, Oct. 13, Nov 10, & Dec. 8

    Applicants must have the following to apply:

    · A copy of your birth certificate
    · A copy of your high school and college diplomas and transcripts with raised seal
    · or a GED certificate with a raised seal and completion percentage.
    · Have an insurable Drivers License.
    · Must pass the drug test.
    · You must take the State Administered Work Keys for Plumbers.
    · 3 tests are involved and they must be taken within 30 days.
    · Once you get your scores they must be mail or drop off to the Plumbers Local 210.
    · Passing scores are Math 5, Applied Technology 4, Listening Skills 3.
    · Non passing MUST call Work One and reschedule the to take the test again.
     

  • This Scholarship is for any student who will be attending Ball State and majoring in Journalism, advertising, or public relations.

    · Must submit a 200-250 word essay explaining why you should receive the scholarship.

    · Why you want to major in journalism?

    · List related journalism, extracurricular or community activities

    · List positions held on student publications.

    · List any honors or major awards received while in high school.

    · Submit a portfolio of your cent work paper or digital and two letters of recommendation (one should be from your Journalism adviser.)

    · Due March 1st

  • Foundations of East Chicago will be taking scholarship applications starting February 15th, 2010.

    • Go to www.foundationsec.org to access the application
      Applications are due March 26th 2010
       

    • Interview notifications regarding time and date will be April 29th-May 1st or May 6th-May 8th.
       

    • Interview location is tentatively scheduled to occur at Ivy Tech-East Chicago Campus
       

    • Scholarship awards will be announced around May 20th

     
  • Great Clips Cosmetology School Scholarships. Pick Up applications at Guidance and turn them in by April 30, 2010. You must pursue a career in cosmetology to qualify.
     
  • Student InSight is offering scholarships:
    Students can apply at www.student-view.com and complete an application survey to qualify.
    The Survey must be completed by April 22, 2010
     
  • Indiana Sheriff’s Association will award 40 students with a $500 scholarship. Candidates must be interested in seeking a career in criminal justice. Pick up an application in the Guidance Department
     
  • AES Engineers is pleased to be able renew our scholarship offer for 2010.
    The applicants are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.
    How to Apply:

  • La Sociedad Cultural Civica La Reforma (SCCLR) is offering a scholarship to four deserving Hispanic students. You may pick up an application at the guidance office. Applications must be in by April 30, 2010.
     
  • Centier Bank and the Scharge Family are offering a scholarship. To qualify a student must:
    -Show strong leadership skills
    -A good work ethic
    -Community involvement
    -Successful academic career by finishing in the top 20% of graduating class
    -Minimum of a 950 SAT score
    -Provide a grammatically correct completed application

    Applications must be in by April 1, 2010. If you believe you meet the qualifications you may pick up an application at the guidance office.

  • Calumet College of St. Joseph is offering a scholarship for students interested in art, theater, journalism, and library science. Those students interested in Library Science must submit:

    · A letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, librarian, or media specialist who has worked with them in some capacity.

    · Choose a major that would prepare them to pursue a Master’s degree in Library Science upon graduation from CCSJ.

    · Awardees will collaborate with professional staff to develop study guides, pathfinders, and other creative information handling projects in Speaker Library.

    Any student interested may pick up an application at E.C. Central’s Guidance Office. You may also contact Virginia Roberts at vrodes@ccsj.edu or Marcia Keith at mkeith@ccsj.edu. Application and material will be reviewed beginning
    April 1, 2010.
     
  • The I Too Sing America Organization of Northwest Indiana, Inc. is offering three (3) $500 scholarships. Applicants must comply with the following:

    · Be a resident of Northwest Indiana and a student in good standing. Eligible for a diploma or a GED at the end of the 2010 academic school year.
    · A GPA of a 2.50
    · African-American and a senior in high school
    · Be registered at accredited post secondary educational institution. ( Proof of acceptance and registration must be provided before scholarship dollars are disbursed.
    · Provide a copy of your latest transcript.
    · Submit three letters of recommendations that show evidence of character, leadership, and/or community service.
    · Compile a 300 word essay indicating what style of black music has made the greatest influence, in the music industry, and why? (Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Spiritual, R&B, Hip Hop, or Rap)
    · Be available for interview with the Scholarship Committee.
    · Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
    · Applications are due:
    April 5, 2010

Important for all seniors:

Go to http://www.in.gov/ssaci/ to create an estudent account.

  • This website allows students to access their state grant information.

  • SSACI is state level financial aid while FAFSA is federal aid

  • On FAFSA make your first college choice an Indiana State School in order to receive aid from SSACI

  • Student is responsible for all corrections in order to receive aid.

  • Information must be accurate both on SSACI and FAFSA

This is important if the information does not match a student could potentially lose any aid they have coming to them.

-You must verify all information on your e-student account.

  • SSACI will only communicate via e-mail. Make sure the account is current and will be used for the next few years while in college.  Both parents and students must have e-mail account.

  • If you are 21st century scholar you MUST attend a mandatory meeting and complete the affirmation letter.

-If you fail to do so you will lose the 21st century scholarship.

-All Students must fill out a FAFSA in order to keep their state financial aid benefits available for future use.

-FAFSA application must be in by March 1 no exceptions.

-All corrections must be done by May 15th.

-Seniors please turn in a copy of your college acceptance letter to the guidance office.
