Chapter 8 Section 3, Ancient Egypt, pgs 223-227
Indiana’s Academic Standard: Historical Knowledge 7.1.1, Describe the achievements of ancient Egypt in art, architecture, religion and government and the development of the concept of theocracy.
Task: Using Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics students will spell their name. Student’s work is to be neatly and creatively drawn.
Purpose: To appreciate how ancient Egyptians communicated using the hieroglyphic alphabet.
Supplies Needed: Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics handout, drawing paper, pencils, pens, crayons, and ruler.
Activity: Egyptians used (hieroglyphics) picture symbols, or pictographs,
to stand for both words and sounds. Have students look at examples of
hieroglyphics in this section and try to identify objects in the writing. Then
use student’s names on the board as examples to create their own name in
hieroglyphics. Each student will create their name in hieroglyphics using the
materials provided. Student’s work will than be displayed.

Learning Objective: The Students will examine the relationship and significance of themes, concepts, and movements regarding the development of the United States. This will include: discovery, exploration, and colonization of one of the thirteen original colonies up to the Revolutionary War. Instructional Strategies: The students have been assigned a research report on one of the original colonies. They will give their report orally with a visual aide that coincides with their research report. |
