Parent Booster Club Minutes

2006-21 Last months minutes were reviewed.

2006-22 We will have our next meeting on January 10, 2007.

2006-23 Parents want to know if the East Chicago Public Libraries can get copies of the school textbooks that children will need for homework.

2006-24 Mr. Santos will be contacting the library in regards to the textbooks.

2006-25 Our parent Diana Burns is on the library board and she also will ask about the textbooks.

2006-26 School Counselors as well as, teachers have access to progress reports instantly. Students and parents just need to ask for them.

2006-27 How can we get the teachers to show concern?

2006-28 Whenever a child is absent he/she is able to make up all work as long as the absence is excused.

2006-29 Children are allowed into the building before and after school. They just can’t keep coming in and out. They either stay in or stay out.

2006-29.1 Mr. Rhodes said security guards are being trained on how to talk to and understand the children.

2006-30 Mr. Rhodes believes that if we can build character in our children they will know how to act.

2006-31 He also believes that parent involvement is #1 priority.

2006-32 A security officer has been removed due to a problem.

2006-33 There are background checks on all security officers.

2006-34 They do have random drug testing at school and agree that drug users should not be security guards.

2006-35 We are working on getting both male/female officers on an everyday basis.

2006-36 Mr. Rhodes and Mrs. Truttling both want to be aware of any problems or concerns. They will address it ASAP!

2006-37 Male security guards being to friendly with the girls has been addressed.

2006-38 Mr. Rhodes has reinforced no getting to personal with the students.

2006-39 Even if an ID has been taken away, they are allowed to eat lunch! They must let an adult know before lunch is over.

2006-40 GED program is held during school hours and is a BIG concern for parents!

2006-41 When detentions are given they are always for the next day, not that day.

2006-42 All subjects are taught during tutoring.

2006-43 Children must bring work to tutoring for assistance on specific homework.

2006-44 If there are any issues on transportation please let Mr. Santos or Mr. Gillis know, they will address them. The numbers to call is 391-4175 or 391-4176.

These are the minutes from our second meeting. We are currently working on solutions for these concerns and questions. We hope to have as many answers as possible by our next meeting. Also we are trying to get some school representatives to attend our next meeting to answer some of these questions.
