Due to the requirements connected with
receiving Universal Service Funding, we must have some sort of filtering
agent
on our Internet access. The district has selected 8e6, a product that is
generally highly regarded. 8e6 initially blocks sites by category. That
is, adult entertainment sites, commercial sites, cult sites, etc. are not
available. When you try to open a site and are told that 8e6 will not
allow access, the site obviously falls into one of the blocked categories.
Many sites, such as A & E or PBS are regarded as commercial sites even
though they also contain educational information.
Blocked sites can be opened by
following a simple procedure. Complete the information below. A minimum
of 10 school days prior to the event. However, it is important that you
understand you must have the complete and exact address. These sites are not
unblocked by going to the site, instead we go to a 8e6 permission page
that allows only the insertion of the web address.
It is extremely important that you
view these web sites before you share them with your students. We have
experienced situations where the sites have been unblocked and when teachers
shared with their students inappropriate material was on the page. Web sites
may also be blocked. If you find a web site that has any inappropriate
material please submit them and we will see that the web site is blocked.
